Building your design team is an important part of a successful remodeling or building project.

The architect you choose to design your ideal home and the builder who makes that vision a reality are vital components to achieving your dream.  Spending the time in the beginning of the project to interview and hire  a team that will work well with you – and with each other – is well worth the effort.

If you are planning a green design home, the right team becomes even  more important.  At least one member of the team should be experienced and/or accredited as a green design professional.  The most recognized expert status is the LEED AP, given by the USGBC to professionals who have demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the LEED certification process and requirements.

By having both an architect and an interior designer, you will benefit from having multiple talented and creative minds with overlapping skills working together. Along with your contractor, this combination is sure to produce an integrated, functional and beautifully built home.  Working together, they become a system of checks and balances that produces the results you expect.

Architects primarily design the exterior and structural elements of buildings. However, they also are involved in the interiors – especially in the interior architectural details such as ceilings and fireplaces. Typically there is some collaboration between the interior designer and the architect on the design and finish of all interior surfaces.

Your contractor or builder is key to actually achieving the results that you and your interior design have envisioned. They must have great attention to detail, and an attitude that is conducive to a team effort in providing you, the homeowner, with the spectacular home you deserve.
